As it happened: Fleet split for day two after big NZ-France crash

Australia have taken advantage of the new split-fleet format to defend their New Zealand SailGP crown off Auckland's Wynyard Point.

After Saturday's high-speed crash between New Zealand and France, which eliminated both teams from contention, organisers decided to divide the now 11-boat fleet to avoid a repeat.

Australia, Great Britain and Spain emerged from the dilluted format to contest the final, and the Aussies duly prevailed, as they did 12 months ago.
