Black Caps pace bowler Blair Tickner has copped a worrying blow at training on the eve of the final ODI against England in Wellington.

Tickner limped away after copping a full-blooded drive on the shin while bowling in the Basin Reserve nets late on Friday morning.

There was no immediate official word on his condition from team officials.

The incident occurred on the same day as the selectors drafted Northern Districts pace bowler Kristian Clarke into the squad to replace an injured Matt Henry.

Tickner had been brought into the squad before the second ODI in Hamilton on Wednesday after Kyle Jamieson was ruled out with a side strain.

Tickner then played in that match because of a left calf strain suffered by Henry.

The 32-year-old provided a star turn with career-best ODI figures of 4 for 34 as the Black Caps won by four wickets.

Clarke, 24, was joining squad training in Wellington on Friday ahead of the third and final ODI against England on Saturday, while Henry was returning home to Christchurch after his calf strain hadn't improved enough to allow him to play.

The Black Caps have already claimed the series, with wins in the first two matches.

Clarke's call-up comes after he scored his maiden domestic century and took three for 57 in Northern Districts' win over the Central Stags in a Ford Trophy match in New Plymouth on Thursday.

Clarke, who hails from Te Awamutu, has played 75 first-class games across the three formats, and was in the New Zealand A squad which toured Bangladesh earlier this year.

He first came to national attention with strong performances with bat and ball at the U19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa in 2020.
