World women's squash number one Nicol David has won a record-equalling fifth World Open title by beating Egypt's Omneya Abdel Kawy 3-nil in the final in Cairo.

The Malaysian needed only 30 minutes on the all-glass court to match the haul of Australia's Sarah Fitz-Gerald, who collected her titles between 1996 and 2002.

The 27-year-old David's third straight world title confirmed her dominance of the women's game after she completed 50 consecutive months at the top of the world rankings.

David also kept her undefeated record this year intact and she did not drop a game en route to her fifth world title.

New Zealand's Dame Susan Devoy won the world title 4 times between 1985 and 1992.
