The Black Foils have slumped from first to third on the SailGP standings after struggling for speed on the still waters of Switzerland's Lake Geneva.
Germany claimed a maiden regatta victory on a weekend of upsets as New Zealand could only manage eighth overall, equalling their worst return.
It was Swtizerland's first time hosting a leg of the global sailing leg for foiling catamaras and the Black Foils won't take away fond memories.
Placings of fifth and 10th in the final two fleet races on Sunday ended New Zealand's hopes of a top-three finish as they failed to come to grips with light winds.
Australia - who finished second in the regatta final - take top spot in the standings on 76 points, only just clear of Great Britain's 75 points and New Zealand's 73 in the tightly-bunched 12-boat series.
The Black Foils will need to reflect on their lack of speed and some tactics that backfired in the last two fleet races, which were both shortened to four legs, with only three crew members on each boat.
Their hopes were extinguished in the final fleet race when they copped a penalty for now allowing room for the Canadian boat.
