NRL star Reece Walsh has hit out at critics of his video showing him drinking toilet water, despite widespread criticism including from his club bosses.
Walsh's video has gone viral and been the subject of considerable comment on social media.
Walsh said the toilet was newly installed at his home and had not been used.
His club, the Brisbane Broncos, described the video as "a poor attempt at humour" and some pundits have called for the 23-year-old to be put under the guidance of a mentor.
He starred in last night's NRL game against the Melbourne Storm with two tries and an assist - and after one of the tries he mimicked drinking water.
Speaking to Channel Nine after the match, Walsh dismissed criticism of his prank.
He said he had been involved in installing the toilet so he was sure it hadn't been used before he drank from it.
Walsh said he wouldn't want any children to copy his actions but said his joke had been blown out of proportion.
