New Zealand Davis Cup tennis team member Michael Venus came back from a set down to make the quarter-finals at the ATP Challenger tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Venus won 5-7 6-3 7-6 against Miloslav Mecir Jr. - the son and namesake of his more famous father, once a world top 10 player.
Venus faces third seed Andrej Martin of Slovakia in the quarter-final.
It was another seeded Slovakian player, the fourth seed Marek Semjan, who halted Rubin Statham at the same tournament, defeating the New Zealander 7-6 6-4.
