Hockey New Zealand needs investment to get an eight team domestic Premier Hockey League off the ground next year.
The Premier Hockey League (PHL) will initially consist of four franchises with men's and women's competitions to run concurrently - making it the first of its kind in New Zealand.
Teams will include New Zealand and overseas players.
With investment secured for one franchise, the League is targeting investment for north of the Bombays, the central and Lower North Island and the South Island to fill the rest of the competition.
Hockey New Zealand chief executive Anthony Crummy described the PHL as an "exciting product which will see our players enjoy consistent, elite level competition at home."
"The League will prioritise a fan-first approach, showcasing elite-level, athletic and entertaining hockey, driving new investment into hockey and elevating our sport to new heights."
Hockey Players Association executive manager Glen Sulzberger said the PHL would improve "the foundation of high performance outcomes for New Zealand's top hockey players".
"Our members welcome the prospect for players to enhance their experience and skills with more elite-level domestic hockey, and believe a strong domestic league is integral to building player depth across the country."
The seven week home and away round robin competition is set to launch in November 2024.
Expressions of interest to own franchises closes on 1 December.
