The Victorian yacht Georgia has become the first casualty of the 2008 Sydney to Hobart race with its crew having to be rescued by competitors from other boats.
The New Zealand-built Farr 52 belonging to Sydney to Hobart veterans John Williams and Graeme Ainley issued a mayday call after the boat suffered a broken rudder stock and started taking on water.
All members of the crew are reported safe and well.
Meanwhile Skandia has a narrow lead over defending champion Wild Oats with Shockwave third.... the New Zealand boat Time Lord is in 65th position.
