The champion jockey Michael Walker plans to ride at the Paeroa trials today after being cleared to ride trackwork and trials.
Walker's return to the saddle comes six months after he suffered severe head injuries in a pig hunting accident in remote King Country bush.
Walker won last season's jockey's premiership despite missing the last two months of the season.
He'll need medical clearances before he can return to raceday riding.
