Netball NZ bails out Central Pulse

5:42 pm on 6 November 2008

The troubled Wellington based netball franchise the Central Pulse has called in Netball New Zealand to bail it out financially to the tune of around $150,000, so it can compete in next year's Trans Tasman tournament.

Yesterday all of the New Zealand franchises, bar the Pulse, announced their squads for the 2009 season, with the Wellington franchise granted a 20 day extension to finalise a team.

Central Pulse Board Chair Nigel Kirkpatrick says they approached Netball New Zealand as they can't guarantee their financial position for next year after losing a major sponsor.

He says they've confirmed the signings of Silver Fern Paula Griffin and Jamaican international Althea Byfield.

Netball New Zealand CEO Raelene Castle says they're committed to ensuring there are five competitive teams from New Zealand the money they give the Pulse will be a loan.
