The defending champion secured the silver medal with her third throw - a distance of 69.63.

Canada's Camryn Rogers was a class above the field with a throw of 74.08 to claim gold.

New Zealand's Nicole Brandley finished ninth in the final.

In 2014, she won a silver medal in Glasgow before winning a memorable gold in Gold Coast four years ago.

Coached by her father Dave, the Hamilton-raised athlete said she was really happy to win another Commonwealth Games medal in her third appearance.

"The crowd tonight was absolutely outrageous, it was so cool to be out there. As I've said a few times after Tokyo, which was super dead so so cool just to have that roar of that crowd egging you on," Ratcliffe said.

"Lots of friends and family in the crowd tonight so that was really special and really proud of how I kept building out there."

White Ferns to compete for bronze

The White Ferns' close semi-final loss to Australia sends New Zealand into the bronze medal match at the Commonwealth Games.

Put in to bat, New Zealand posted 144 for 7 from their 20 overs.

Captain Sophie Devine top-scored with 53 runs.

Australia achieved the required total with three balls to spare with five wickets down.

New Zealand will play England in the bronze medal play-off tonight and Australia will face India for the gold medal.

King and Coll into gold medal match in mixed doubles

Joelle King and Paul Coll have eased into the mixed doubles squash final with a comfortable 11-7, 11-4 win over top-seeded Indian pair of Saurav Ghosal and Karthik Pallikal in a 29 minute contest to guarantee themselves a medal.

What colour the medal is depends on their clash against the English team of Alison Waters and Adrian Waller in the final.

The gold medal match is scheduled for 6am Monday morning New Zealand time.

It would be the seventh Commonwealth Games medal for King and fourth for Coll.

King is also still in the women's doubles semi-finals, with Amanda Landers-Murphy. The defending champions from the Gold Coast four years ago face Malaysians Yiwen Chan and Ainaa Ampandi. This match will be played at 11pm Sunday evening.

The semi-final win the mixed doubles assures King and Coll of either gold or silver and means that King, 33, will have won at least one medal at the last four Commonwealth Games.

Coll has already had success in Birmingham, having justified his top seeding in winning the men's singles.

Bronze medals in bowls and boxing

New Zealand added bronze overnight to wrap up a succesful campaign at the lawn bowls in Birmingham.

The women's pair of Katelyn Inch and Selina Goddard defeated Malaysia 20-15 in the playoff.

And super heavyweight boxer Leuila Mau'u has taken New Zealand's only boxing medal with bronze from his knockout win.
