Djokovic will take on wildcard Tim van Rijthoven in the round of 16

American John Isner slammed down 24 aces to claim the all-time record for serving in his loss to Jannik Sinner.

The American now has 13,729 aces at Wimbledon, passing Ivo Karlovic's previous leading mark of 13,728.

Britain's Heather Watson reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in 43 attempts over 12 years as she beat Slovenia's Kaja Juvan 7-6(6) 6-2 in front of a barely believing crowd on Wimbledon Court one.

Watson, 30, has slipped to 121st in the world rankings and fourth in Britain and although she has tasted notable success in doubles, she has never been able to sustain a challenge in singles at the top level, her best Wimbledon performances being reaching the third round three times.

The big hitting Fox opened the DP World Tour event with a bogey-free 64 to lead on his own.

Fox is still firmly in contention, sitting just four shots behind Spanish leader Jorge Campillo.

2022 has been a strong year for the 35-year-old Fox, with a win and five top 10 finishes.

Currently at a career high of 56 in the world golf rankings, continued form from the Kiwi could see him making a push to qualify for the International team for the Presidents Cup, which takes place in North Carolina later this year.

Liverpool's Salah signs contract extension

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah on Friday signed a long-term contract extension, putting an end to a lengthy saga about his future at the Premier League club.

The Egypt international has signed an extension until 2025, with the deal coming after strike partner and Senegal forward Sadio Mane left to join German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on a three-year deal last month.

"I feel great and (I am) excited to win trophies with the club. It's a happy day for everyone," Salah said in a statement on the club website.

"I think you can see in the last five or six years the team was always going (upwards). Last season we were close to winning four, but unfortunately in the last week of the season we lost two trophies."

Salah scored 23 league goals for Liverpool last season to share the Premier League golden boot with Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min.

He was named the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year and also took the top honour from the Football Writers' Association.

The 30-year-old scored 31 goals in all competitions for Liverpool and helped them capture the League Cup and FA Cup. They were beaten 1-0 by Real Madrid in the Champions League final in May.

Salah, who joined the Merseyside outfit from Italian side AS Roma in 2017 and has scored 156 goals in 254 appearances, would have been available to leave them on a free transfer at the end of next season.

Hamilton removes piercing

Seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton backed down in a spat with Formula One's governing body and removed a nose stud before taking part in practice for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Friday.

An FIA spokesman confirmed the Mercedes driver was compliant with the rules and the stud had gone.

The 37-year-old was engaged in a standoff with the FIA in May, after drivers were reminded that wearing jewellery in the cockpit was not allowed for safety reasons, but was given an exemption until Silverstone.

The ban on jewellery, as well as the wearing of non-compliant under-garments, has long been in the rules but rarely enforced until the FIA clamped down this season.

It says items beneath the mandatory flameproof clothing could increase the risk of burn injuries and has highlighted the risk of critical delays or complications if medical imaging is required following an accident.

Tour de France underway

Yves Lampaert of Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl sprang a surprise to win stage one of the Tour de France on Friday, a 13.2 km individual time trial in Copenhagen, finishing five seconds ahead of pre-stage favourite and fellow Belgian Wout van Aert.

Lampaert finished with a time of 15 minutes and 17 seconds in rainy conditions that slowed several riders. Slovenia's Tadej Pogacar, who is targeting his third consecutive Tour de France title, finished seven seconds behind in third.

"I have beaten the great Wout van Aert," said Lampaert. "It's incredible - I never expected that. For now, I don't understand. It's the Tour de France, the best riders have completed the course and I'm in the lead."
