In December against India in Mumbai Patel became just the third bowler in the history of the game to achieve the feat, taking all 10 opposition wickets with 10-119.

The previous best by a New Zealand bowler was Sir Richard Hadlee's 9-52 against Australia in 1985.

England's Jim Laker and India's Anil Kumble are the only other bowlers to have taken 10 wickets in a test innings.

The proceeds from the Trade Me auction will go to the the Starship Radiology Department.

"My daughter was born at Auckland hospital and when she was born she had a fever," Patel said.

"So they took her into Starship and gave her some treatment before handing her back to mum."

"Through that period I was sitting with my daughter in an NICU unit with a lot of vulnerable children around us, I just remember thinking how difficult that must be as a parent."

The Trade Me auction closes next wednesday, and ticked over $18'000 this morning with 106 bids so far.

"It was quite impactful and I guess I wanted to help them out in some way, and i'm privileged to be in a position to be able to do that."

Patel said he still had two other shirts from the match. One he rightfully plans to keep, and one he hopes to auction for another charity at some stage.
