Celebrating a birthday at the Olympics should be a pleasant experience but for hockey defender Blair Hopping it's one he'll remember for all the wrong reasons.
Hopping was hit in the back of the head during the Black Sticks' 3-1 win over Korea on Monday night and needed three stitches.
Manager Kevin Marr says he's certainly not in the best frame of mind for his 28th birthday.
Marr says usually you have a sore head after your birthday, not before.
The Black Sticks' second match is against Spain tomorrow.
The New Zealand women play Germany tonight. The game begins at 1 o'clock.
