Ko started the third round in a tie for sixth, two shots off the lead, however a four over par 74 has dropped her to a share of 19th.
She is nine shots behind the leader Sei Young Kim of South Korea.
The PGA Championship is the third women's golf major of the year.
Meanwhile Ryan Fox has slipped to a tie for 22nd at the European PGA Championship at Wentworth in England.
Fox fired a third round one over par 73 to now be nine shots behind the leader Tyrrell Hatton of England.
Fox will return to New Zealand after this tournament.
Disappointing day for NZ mountain bikers
A wet and slippery track brought about the expected carnage with most pre-race favourites including New Zealand champion Anton Cooper, unable to make an impact in the cross-country at the Mountain Bike World Championships in Austria.

The Trek Factory rider from Christchurch had to be content with 41st place, eight minutes behind surprise winner Jordan Sarrou of France while Alpecin Fenix professional Sam Gaze (Cambridge) was 65th from the 90-strong starters.
While the forecast heavy rain and potential snow held off at the mountain resort of Leogang, the track conditions remained muddy to challenge the field, with a number of pre-race favourites including defending champion Nino Schurter and last week's world cup winner Henrique Avancini opting for heavy full suspension bikes.
However Sarrou slipped off the front at the end of the opening full lap and was never headed, winning by 45 seconds with three Frenchman in the top five, while Shurter and Avancini were ninth and 10th respectively 2m40s behind.
Four New Zealanders compete in tonight's downhill race.

The Eels led 18-8 at half time much to the delight of the home crowd before Damien Cook fired up the Rabbitohs with a hand in three tries as they rattled up 30 points in 40 minutes after the break.

Robinson wins award
The Queenstown skier Alice Robinson has been named New Zealand Snow Sports Athlete of the Year.

Robinson opened the season with a historical win in Austria at the Soelden Giant Slalom World Cup in October 2019.
She became the youngest person ever to win a World Cup at this venue and it was New Zealand's first Alpine Ski Racing World Cup win since 1997.
Robinson went on to win her second Giant Slalom World Cup in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia in February this year.
She is about to start the new World Cup season in Austria next weekend.
In other awards Corey Peters was named Adaptive Athlete of the Year, Zoi Sadowski-Synott Snowboarder of the Year and Nico Porteous Freeskier of the Year.

World champions South Africa will decide next week whether they travel to Australia in November to take part in the Rugby Championship amid uncertainty over coronavirus travel restrictions and concern about the team's readiness.

Rugby South Africa says "several hurdles needed to be cleared if it is to be confirmed" that the Springboks participate in the four-nation Southern Hemisphere championship in Australia from November 7 to December 12.
The South African government lifted the ban on international sporting participation one week ago but SA Rugby said it was seeking further clarification on the regulations.
"A final decision is likely to be finalised early next week once those clarifications had been assessed internally and with SA Rugby's SANZAAR partners," a statement added.
There has also been widespread concern in the country's rugby community that players are a long way from being ready for the intensity of competition against Argentina, Australia and New Zealand.
South African rugby returned to action only a fortnight ago after a long COVID-19 lockdown.
This weekend marks the re-start of the Super Rugby competition in South Africa while Super Rugby seasons have long been completed in Australia and New Zealand.

Waikato too good for Counties
Waikato has moved up to second in the Mitre 10 Cup Premiership standings after beating Counties Manukau 36-13 in Hamilton.
Counties lead 10-5 just prior to halftime but gave up a man to the sin bin for repeated scrum infringements and then a penalty try as the siren sounded for the break to give the homeside a 12-10 lead at the break.
Waikato scored five tries to one.
Waikato are on the same points as top of the table Auckland.
Tasman can return to the top of the standings with a win over Bay of Plenty in Nelson today.
Bottas on pole in Germany
Valtteri Bottas seized pole position with a last lap blast at the Eifel Grand Prix as Mercedes team mate and Formula One championship leader Lewis Hamilton joined him on the front row at the Nuerburgring.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who had been on provisional pole after the first flying laps of the final session at the German circuit, qualified in third place with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc fourth.
The Finn is 44 points behind six times world champion Hamilton, who will still fancy his chances of equalling Michael Schumacher's all-time record 91 career wins tomorrow at a track that last hosted an F1 race in 2013.
German super-sub Nico Hulkenberg, called in as a late replacement for the unwell Lance Stroll at Racing Point, will line up last on the grid.
One place ahead of him, in 19th, will be Alfa Romeo's Kimi Raikkonen, making a record 323rd start -- one more than retired Brazilian Rubens Barrichello.

Briton wins latest stage on Giro
Alex Dowsett of Team Israel Start Up Nation took a second career Giro d'Italia win when he soloed to victory in the eighth stage, a 200-km trek from Giovinazzo to Vieste.
The six-time individual time trial British champion attacked from a small group of breakaway riders some 17km from the finish and maintained his advantage to beat Italian Salvatore Puccio and another Briton Matthew Holmes.
Portugal's Joao Almeida retained the overall leader's Maglia Rosa after a quiet day in the main bunch.
The overall contenders are set to be the main focus tonight when the ninth stage takes the peloton over 208km from San Salvo to Roccaraso in the Abruzzo mountains.
Briton Simon Yates of the Mitchelton-Scott team was withdrawn from the race after testing positive for the novel coronavirus.
