The Auckland golfer Ryan Fox admits he probably took longer to recover from his honeymoon than he expected.

Fox tees up at the Irish Open this week, 12 months after getting beaten in a play-off at the event.

Fox got married in April and since then has missed five cuts in a row, however he says it's what he deserved.

"Probably needed my arse kicked a little bit to be honest, my honeymoon was a little bit too good in April and I came back probably a little too fat to be honest."

"My golf game really wasn't in good shape and I needed to get bitten a little bit and refocus me the last few weeks."

Fox says he's been working hard and hopefully that transfer onto the course in County Clare this week.

"The golf game feels good and it would be nice to get out and see some scores in tournaments, it's felt like it's been there on the range and that's the silly thing about this game, sometimes it can feel good and it doesn't work out and other times it can feel horrendous and you can get it done on the golf course."

"I'm hoping I can put them together and put some good scores out this week."

Fox is currently the highest ranked New Zealander at 99.
