The New Zealand paralympic swimmer Sophie Pascoe has won a gold medal and broken the world record in the 100 metresc butterfly at the 2010 IPC World Championships in the Netherlands in the first day of competition.
The 17-year-old, who's from Canterbury, finished a full second ahead of the second placed swimmer, Elodie Lorandi of France with American Anna Eames third.
The championships run until Sunday and New Zealand has a five-person team at the event.
