NZOC seeking venue assurances

5:47 pm on 10 August 2010

The New Zealand Olympic Committee is seeking assurances from the Commonwealth Games Federation that all issues raised about the readiness of venues in Delhi are addressed before athletes arrive.

The NZOC says there are similarities to the Athens Games buildup as issues about the construction and readiness of some venues in Delhi are reported less than two months before the opening ceremony.

The NZOC's president Mike Stanley says they're aware that water leaks and other building issues have occurred in some venues.

Stanley says there have been reports that compliance certification may not have been adequate and they're pushing hard for assurances .

But he says venues in Athens were also behind and Greece hosted a successful games, which the NZOC remains confident India will , too.
