New ICC vice-president says appointment process frustrating

11:39 am on 10 August 2010

The new vice-president of the International Cricket Council New Zealander Alan Isaac says he's honoured to have been appointed but admits it was disappointing Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket's first nominee for the role was rejected.

Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket, whose turn it was to put forward a candidate for the post, opted for Isaac after their original nomination, former Australia Prime Minister John Howard, failed to get sufficient backing from the ICC board.

Sir John Anderson, the man Howard beat for the original nomination and Isaac's predecessor as NZC chairman, then ruled himself out.

Isaac concedes the balance of power lies with the cash rich Asian cricketing nations such as India and the appointment process was frustrating.
