Roddick loss another setback for US Tennis

12:33 pm on 8 August 2010

Andy Roddick's upset loss to 13th-seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon at the Washington tennis Classic means no American man will be in the top 10 for the first time in the ranking system's 37-year history.

The 27-year-old Roddick, currently ninth in the world, will tumble out of the prestigious group when new rankings come out next week.

A lethargic Roddick, seeded second at the hardcourt tournament, was beaten 6-3 6-3 by Simon in their third-round match.

With fellow Americans John Isner, Mardy Fish and Ryan Sweeting beaten in the third round, Roddick's loss also ensured no American would play in the last eight for the first time in the Washington Classic, which dates back to 1969.
