Schumacher lucky to avoid disqualification in Budapest

It's been revealed that the seven times world motor racing champion Michael Schumacher was lucky to avoid a disqualification from last weekend's Hungarian grand prix.

Schumacher was penalised 10 grid places for the Belgian grand prix at the end of this month for almost driving the Brazilian Reubens Barrichello into the pit lane wall at 300 kilometres an hour.

The retired grand prix driver Derek Warwick, the drivers representaive on the stewards panel, says Schumacher would have been disqualified but the incident happened in the final stages of the race, and they didn't have time to analyse video evidence.

Schumacher made a rare apology to his former Ferrari team mate 24 hours after the race.
