Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves of Brazil has been fined $90,000 and placed on probation for the rest of the season by IndyCar officials following an incident in Edmonton last week.

The punishment stems from Castroneves' angry actions in the moments after learning he did not win the Edmonton Indy car race after he was black-flagged for blocking Australian Will Power, his Penske Racing teammate.

As a result of the blocking penalty, New Zealand's Scott Dixon - who passed Power seconds after the blocking move - was awarded the victory and Castroneves was pushed back to 10th after a 20-second penalty.

An upset Castroneves touched two race officials on the pit lane moments after learning of the decision, bringing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

An official says while a suspension was considered, the outburst was uncommon for a driver considered one of the most popular in the open-wheel series.
