East Coast Bays claim Chatham Cup semis spot

8:17 am on 25 July 2010

Jack Beguely scored with the last kick of the match to give 2008 winners East Coast Bays a 2-1 victory Glenfield Rovers in the quarter-finals of football's Chatham Cup.

Beguely curled a shot over and around Glenfield goalkeeper Jacob Spoonley, who managed to collect the ball but not before an assistant referee awarded the goal.

Spoonley was cautioned by referee Nick Waldron as Glenfield players vigorously protested the goal, but time was up.

Earlier, Glenfield's Paul Seaman's volley from the edge of the penalty area had cancelled out Dan Morgan Howell's sixth minute opener for Bays.

The quarter-finals continue Sunday when Forrest Hill United entertain Bay Olympic at Becroft Park, Caversham travel to Christchurch to take on Ferrymead Bays at Barnett Park and Miramar Rangers host underdogs Wellington United at David Farrington Park in the capital.
