The Adelaide Thunderbirds admit they're surprised at playing the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in Sunday's trans Tasman netball final.
Adelaide coach Jane Woodlands-Thompson says she expected the New South Wales Swifts to gain the second finals berth.
But the Swifts, undefeated in the regular season, were downed by the Magic in an upset preliminary final result.
Woodlands-Thompson says she expected the Swifts to win as they've been the best team all year.
She says learnt a lot from watching the match, but not how to stop Magic goalshooter Irene van Dyk who scored 43 goals from 44 attempts in the Magic's triumph.
The two sides met only once during the season with the Magic winning 53-43 in Rotorua.
