Gascoigne to remain in hospital

The former England soccer star Paul Gascoigne is expected to remain in hospital for several more days following a horrific car crash.

Gascoigne was reportedly left choking on his own blood following the incident on Sunday in Newcastle.

The 43-year-old became a global star after his performances at the 1990 World Cup and his clubs included Tottenham, Lazio and Rangers.

He was a passenger in a car which is thought to have hit a lamp-post and then smashed into a wall.

A 36-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

Since quitting football six years ago Gascoigne has been blighted by drink problems.

Hewill stand trial in late July after pleasing not guilty to driving while more than four times over the legal alcohol limit.
