Argentina scored their first goal in the second quarter after they were awarded a penalty stroke because their shot from Agustina Habif was obstructed by New Zealand keeper, Grace O'Hanlon's, glove that came loose while diving for the ball.

Noel Barrionuevo converted the penalty stroke before Argentina put the nail in the Black Sticks' coffin in the 49th minute when Delfina Merino found the back of the goal box.

"We didn't hit our game in the pool matches," said New Zealand's Head Coach Mark Hager after the game. "No-one wants a game with Argentina at this stage. We only have ourselves to blame for earlier results."

Argentina will play Australia in the quarter finals.
