Fox was in a tie for 40th at the halfway point, but fired a seven under par 63 today to surge into a share of second place.

He's just a shot behind leader Jen Dantorp of Sweden.

Fox took full advantage of a favourable wind on the back nine with three birdies and an eagle in the last six holes.

That included a two-putt birdie on the 18th having almost driven the green.

"Very happy, I played decent over the first few rounds and didn't get much going with my energy levels down from last week which is understandable, but I got a good night's sleep which helped," said Fox.

"I wasn't thinking about anything, I was just trying to go out there and make a score and thankfully I did that pretty well."

Five golfers join him on 12-under par for the tournament, including golf superstar Rickie Fowler who will be looking to engrave his name on the Scottish Open trophy for a second time and at the same course.

Fox finished second at last week's Irish Open to qualify for next week's British Open at Carnoustie.
