A quickfire 40 from Albie Morkel late in the South African innings proved the difference as the Proteas beat the New Zealand cricketers by 13 runs in their opening Super Eight match at the Twenty20 World Cup in Barbados.
Morkel, who came in at number five, smashed 40 from 18 balls as South Africa hit 62 off their last five overs in their total of 170 for four. New Zealand replied with 157 for seven with Jesse Ryder making 33.
The New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori concedes their death bowling wasn't good and that's where the game got away from them.
Vettori feels they still did have the opportunity to press for the win but lost key wickets at the wrong time.
