Hurricanes player Barrett and friend Sam Casey were questioned by police and released without charges after the incident, which occurred after the Hurricanes 30-14 Super Rugby loss to the Highlanders on Friday night.

Barrett spoke with media at Wellington Airport this morning and said he was not intoxicated.

"I can't say I'm embarrassed by what's happened, I'm just disappointed with the events that have unfolded. I don't believe I've caused any harm to anyone," the 21-year-old said.

"It was a human error, I walked into the wrong flat and then we left.

"I had a couple of drinks in town with mates and basically I can recall everything that happened that night."

Hurricanes chief executive Avan Lee said Barrett was apologetic and said he accepted it was an innocent mistake on Barrett's part.

Lee said they were disappointed but confirmed Barrett hadn't broken any team rules.

Lee was confident Barrett wasn't in a "drunk and disorderly" state, as the player himself stated.

"I've spoken to him a couple of times. My team had seen him in the morning and his behaviour is consistent with what he's told me ... and what he's told the police and the conversation he had with them."

Barrett has now joined the All Black squad preparing for next weekend's test against France, but Lee said he would have a further talk with Barrett when he returned to the Hurricanes team.

"Jordie will learn something from it and we will talk to Jordie when he gets back into our environment ...just to reiterate our responsibilities when we're in public."
