The All Blacks first five-eighth Beauden Barrett has reportedly been offered a deal to play in France that would make him rugby's highest paid player.

Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph are reporting a team from the French Top 14 competition is prepared to hand Barrett a three-year contract worth $10 million, which equates to $3.4 million per year.

The Telegraph contacted Barrett's agent Warren Alcock, but he would not be drawn on the reports.

"We couldn't make any comment on that," he said.

The 2016 and 2017 world men's player of the year, Barrett would surpass former All Blacks No 10 Dan Carter as the highest paid rugby player on the planet if the deal went through.

Carter will make an estimated $2.4 million in 2018, which is his final year with French club Racing 92 before he heads off to play in Japan.

Japanese star Ayumu Goromaru was estimated to have made a similar amount, plus add ons, with French club Toulon last year.
