Debut wins for Kent and Baker in Ocean Swim Series

Steven Kent and Cara Baker have won their first ever Ocean Swim Series titles at the King of the Bays race in Auckland on Saturday.

In the final round of the series, from Milford to Takapuna Beach, 22 year old Kent got away to a quick start in the men's race and held on to win by the narrowest of margins from Stefan Talbot and Bryn Murphy, with just 15 seconds separating the first half dozen home.

In the women's event it was overall series champion Charlotte Webby who started best, sitting just 50m off the lead men for much of the journey.

But Baker put a poor start behind her to emerge from the water with a narrow lead before holding on to claim her debut victory.

Webby finished second while Melissa Ingram, named last week in New Zealand's Commonwealth Games swim team, was third.

Results didn't alter the overall series results though, with Rotorua's Kane Radford and Charlotte Webby taking out the overall titles.
