Bad news for Arsenal's Premier League title hopes while slightly better news for fans of the England football team.
Arsenal's captain Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out for at least six weeks with a cracked bone in his leg, suffered in Thursday's 2-2 Champions League quarter-final first leg draw with Barcelona.
The injury rules the Spain midfielder out of the rest of Arsenal's title campaign, though the 22-year-old should recover in time to play at least some part in Spain's World Cup campaign in South Africa this year.
Meanwhile England's talismanic striker Wayne Rooney only suffered minor ligament damage to his ankle at the end of Manchester United's 2-1 loss at Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The 24-year-old looks certain to miss Sunday's top-of-the-table Premier League clash against Chelsea and probably the second leg against Bayern next week.
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has recovered from a knee injury and will start against United.
