Auckland will host the next men's softball world champs in 2021.

The awarding of the tournament to New Zealand was made at the World Baseball and Softball Congress in Botswana.

The tournament will be held at North Harbour's Rosedale Park stadium in Albany.

The Black Sox are the reigning world champions after winning this year's tournament in Canada.

They will defend their title in Prague in 2019.

Softball New Zealand chief executive Tony Giles said "a lot of hard work has gone into preparing the bid and this outcome is testament to the support the organisation has received from both central and local government agencies in collaboration with North Harbour Softball Association in bringing the pinnacle of the men's world game back to our shores."

New Zealand has hosted the tournament three times previously in 1976, 2004 and 2013.
