The National Rugby League career of former Kiwis Shaun Kenny-Dowall's hangs in limbo after he was released from the Sydney Roosters following a drugs charge.

Kenny-Dowall was stood down last month after he was allegedly caught by police with cocaine at a Sydney nightclub and was released from the final few months of his contract by the Roosters yesterday having played there since 2007.
The club released him on Tuesday from the final months of his contract.
"Shaun has made a significant contribution to the Roosters' on-field success across his 13 years at the club, and for that, we thank him," Roosters chief executive Joe Kelly said in a statement.
"The club wishes Shaun all the very best in the future."

The end of Kenny-Dowall's Roosters career comes eight days before he is due to face court on a drug possession charge.
The 29-year-old played 224 games with the Bondi-based club, making his debut in 2007 and playing in the Roosters' grand-final losses in 2010 and 2013.
Kenny-Dowall was reportedly on Newcastle's radar before the incident at Ivy nightclub, but talks were put on hold after he was charged.
It is the second player the Roosters have dumped in less than a week, with Paul Carter's contract terminated halfway through the first season of a two-year deal.
