Storey won gold as part of the coxed four at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City and silver at the 1972 Games in Munich.

His son, Dudley Storey Junior, confirmed his death on Twitter, saying he was the strongest man he's ever known.

He was a national coach between 1982 and 1986 with the men's eight winning back to back world championship titles in 1982 and 1983.

He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to rowing in 1983.
