Williams and former Wallabies player James O'Connor were arrested near the Arc de Triomphe over the weekend for allegedly possessing cocaine.

Williams spent some time in custody.

The 77 test veteran said on Twitter "I made a big mistake and I'm sorry. I feel I've let down our beloved rugby community. I will face the consequences. Thanks 4 all the support."

Williams has been suspended by his club, Racing 92, over the incident.

Last month Williams' Racing team-mate and former All Black team-mate Dan Carter was caught drink-driving in Paris and will also face a court hearing.
