Sione Molia scored the opening try in the left corner after receiving a pass off the deck from debutant Andrew Knewstubb.

Knewstubb scored his first try for his country two minutes later by battling over the chalk.

As the half-time bell sounded PNG scored a try to go into the break trailing 12-7.

Thirty seconds in to the second half, Sherwin Stowers completed a string of passes to dot down in the right corner.

Dylan Collier ran in the All Blacks Sevens fourth try before Regan Ware threw off three tackles to score New Zealand's fifth.

Their final pool game is against Scotland at about 11pm NZT.

Earlier, New Zealand defeated hosts Australia 26-14 in their opening match.

Vilimoni Koroi scored the opening try from a turnover created by veterans Tim Mikkelson and DJ Forbes.

The veterans combined again for Mikkelson to score the second try before Australia were awarded a penalty try after repeated infringements by New Zealand.

Iopu Iopu-Aso was given a yellow card which helped Australia to score their second try and go into half time level at 14-14.

Against the run of play, Stowers scored a try early in the second half to wrest the lead back for New Zealand.

Rocky Khan's try put the nail in Australia's coffin two minutes later thanks to a busting run from Sione Molia.

The All Blacks Sevens are the defending champions in Sydney.
