Black Caps coach Mike Hesson says India's 4-nil trouncing of England in the test series further underlines just how difficult the world's top test nation is to beat at home.

New Zealand lost their recent test series in India two-nil and the one day series three games to two.

England's loss has prompted calls for Alastair Cook to stand down.

England are ranked fifth, one place higher than New Zealand, on the test rankings and Hesson says England certainly had one or two things in their favour.

"Worth noting is England managed to win four of the five tosses so obviously were able to bat in the best conditions.

"I think it just confirms that firstly you'll struggle to win in India if you don't win a toss and even if you do there's no guarantee as well," Hesson said.
