English football club Manchester United have closed to within one point of Premier League leaders Chelsea after a Wayne Rooney double guided the defending champions to a 3-0 home win over West Ham.
Rooney scored either side of half-time to take his goals for the season to 27 in all competitions, and helped United into a dominant position with more than half an hour still to play.
Michael Owen came off the bench in the closing stages of the match and capped his side's victory in the 80th minute when he netted his first league goal since September.
Meanwhile the Champions League has found the last16 teams and in first-leg action today French club Bordeaux beat Geece's Olympiakos 1-0, while the reigning champions Barcelona were held to a 1-1 draw at German'ys Stuttgart.
