Strong finish pushes Ellis into top four

New Zealand track cyclist Lauren Ellis has finished fourth in the women's Omnium following an impressive peformance in the final points race.

Ellis was seventh heading into the points race but after finishing second with 73 points, she moved into the top four.

The 27-year-old from Ashburton finished the overall event 10 points behind third - Belgium's Jolien D'Hoore.

Great Britain's Laura Trott won the gold medal by 24 points while Sarah Hammer of the United States claimed silver.

Meanwhile fellow New Zealander Sam Webster will ride off for seventh place in the men's Keirin after failing to make it past the second round heats.
