West Tigers try to get Tuqiri off contract early

The English rugby club Leicester's considering Wests Tigers' request to release dual international Lote Tuqiri, in time for round one of the Australian National Rugby League competition.

Wests Tigers have asked Leceister to bring an early end to Tuqiri's contract, which expires at the end of March, even though the northern hemisphere season runs until the end of May.

Leceister's out of contention for the major European trophies but is at the top English premiership.

Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys says the best case scenario from the NRL club's perspective would have Tuqiri return just prior to round one.
