Adams on song ahead of Rio

The Olympic shot put champion Valerie Adams has shown she's returning to top form just three weeks out from the Rio Games, winning the latest Diamond League meeting in in Monaco.

Adams threw 20.05 metres - the first time she's broken the 20 metre mark this year, to finish 24 centimetres ahead of the Germany's world champion Christina Schwanitz in second place.

Her previous best mark for the year was 19.69 metres.

Adams has one more competition scheduled before heading to Rio to chase a third straight Olympic crown.

New Zealand pole vaulter Eliza McCartney is also competing at the Monaco Diamond League event this weekend.
