The Steel led through out the game, up by six at quarter time and 12 at half time and three quarter-time.

The Steel had already secured top spot in the New Zealand Conference for the play-offs.

Jhaniele Fowler-Read shot 55 from 61 for the Steel, while Jo Harten led the Magic scoring with 37 from 45.

In a courtside interview Steel captain Wendy Frew said her team is playing with a lot of confidence.

"It does feel like that, we've been working extremely hard so its nice to see that the training has helped in the games, in saying that we're happy with the win but there were a few ugly patches out there that we'll want to iron out during the week."

The loss ends the Magic's five game winning streak, although they have also already secured a play-off spot.

The Steel have two games remaining and if they win one of them they will secure home court advantage throughout the play-offs.

However those last two games are against the Melbourne Vixens and the New South Wales Swifts.

The Magic play the Queensland Firebirds and the Adelaide Thunderbirds in their last two games.
