Cheetahs thump Sunwolves

The South African side the Cheetahs have scored their biggest ever win in Super Rugby beating the Sunwolves of Japan 92-17 in Bloemfontein.

The Cheetahs scored 14 tries with winger Sergeal Petersen and loose forward Paul Schoeman both scoring hat-tricks.

In 2002 the Crusaders beat the Waratahs 96-19, while in 2007 the Bulls thrashed the Reds 92-3.

Petersen could have scored more, but twice passed to Schoeman to give his teammate the score.

Just a single point separated these sides when they met in round three in Singapore, but the Sunwolves looked weary at the end of a three-match South African tour as they played with little structure or commitment and allowed too many soft scores.

On a night where the Cheetahs totally dominated, the Sunwolves will look back at this as a game where they never turned up, and possibly confirmed all the fears about their participation in this year's competition.

The Cheetahs and Sunwolves remain third and fourth in their South African Conference.
