Saints win Super Bowl for first time

The New Orleans Saints have beat the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 to win American football's Super Bowl for the first time, scoring 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter in Miami.

The Colts were denied their second Super Bowl title in four seasons after leading 10-0 going into the second quarter and 10-6 at half-time.

The Colts were still ahead by by one point after a third quarter in which the Saints took the lead for the first time when Pierre Thomas collected a screen pass from quarterback and MVP Drew Brees to touch down after a weaving 19-yard run.

But the Colts promptly regained the lead when Joseph Addai touched down after quarterback Peyton Manning had led a 10-play, 76-yard drive.

Garrett Hartley's third field goal brought the Saints back to within a point before Jeremy Shockley collected anorther Brees touch down pass early in the fourth quarter.

Then the Saints defensive back Tracy Porter intercepted a Manning pass and ran 74 yards to touchdown to seal the match.
