Moonah Classic decided by sudden death

9:31 am on 8 February 2010

The American golfer Jim Herman broke through for his maiden victory with a playoff win yesterday over his countryman Chris Kirk at the Moonah Classic in Victoria.

Kirk had led throughout the final day until he stumbled on the 16th and 17th holes, and missed a very makeable putt on the last hole which would have won him the title, which Herman took with a birdie on the first play-off hole.

Third place went to the NZ Open champion Robert Gates, and the top New Zealander Michael Hendry tied for 10th.
