There was a sensational start to the National Thoroughbred Yearling sales at Karaka on Monday with Australasia's first million dollar yearling of the year heading a string of highlights.

The Singaporean buyer Jayven See paid a million dollars for a colt by Fastnet Rock from the Sir Tristram mare, Popsy which he'll race in New Zealand and possibly Australia.

Turnover for the opening day was nearly $7 million up on last year.

The Premier sale winds up today.
