Waite enjoying change of putting style

The New Zealand golfer Grant Waite says he's pleasantly suprised with his new putting technique which he hopes will serve him well in this week's New Zealand Open near Queenstown.

Waite, who is a former winner on the US PGA tour and won the New Zealand Open in 1992, has struggled in recent years, playing mainly on the second tier Nationwide Tour.

After putting right-handed throughout his long career and struggling for confidence on the greens for most of those years, Waite decided last week's New Zealand PGA Championship would mark his arrival as a left-handed putter.

It worked as he three-putted just once in finishing tied for 10th.

Waite gets into this week's New Zealand Open on a sponsor's invite.
