A rugby league coach in England has had a finger torn off in a nasty accident at training.
Castleford Tigers' Australian coach Terry Matterson lost the finger in a training ground accident when he snagged his wedding ring as he jumped a fence to collect a ball... tearing his finger off.
The incident occurred last week during the English Super League squad's preparations for a pre-season match against Catalans Dragons in Perpignan, France.
Emergency surgery to re-attach the finger failed.
