English Premiership football club Liverpool have been knocked out of the FA Cup after a shock 2-1 third-round loss to Championship side Reading at Anfield.

Liverpool lead 1-nil at half-time after an own goal from Reading's Ryan Bertrand, but the struggling Championship side converted a penalty four minutes into stoppage time to level the scores and force the match into extra time.

Shane Long scored the winner for Reading in the tenth minute of extra time to send them into the fourth round where they'll meet Burnley.

Meanwhile, Danish striker Peter Lovenkrands scored a hat-trick to help Newcastle United beat Plymouth Argyle 3-nil in their FA Cup match and will next face West Bromwich Albion.
